Keihin / Mikuni cross reference
27 Jan 2019 13:18
I got a 1977 KZ650 B1 that I am working through. The guy I bought it from claimed he had rejetted it for pods and 4-to-1. Almost everything else he said he had done was a complete mess, so I have little faith in his carburation skills.
Anyway, it has 117.5 Mains, but the pilot jets seem to be Kehin (because of the star-like K on them) and the size stamped on them is 40. The carbs are standard VM-24 with the air-screw and are suposed to use the 22/210 pilot jets, OEM stock size should be 15. My question is, does anyone know how this K-40 jet cross-references to Mikuni sizes.
I have searched the web and read lots on places like Jets-R-Us. Found a lot on Keihin/Mikuni cross-referencing for mains, but not for pilot jets.
Thanks.

I would install the correct Mikuni pilot jets.
That will eliminate any uncertainty as to the proper size.

Yes. I intend to do that eventually. What I am trying to find out is where I am currently starting from. The OEM Mikuni 15 pilots will probably be too small for the current set up. I am slowly working my way back towards more or less stock airbox and exhaust, but still tracking down parts.

650 b1running mikuni vm 24s, with 4 into 1 and velocity stacks, I have pilots plus 2 sizes and mains plus 1 from stock. Runs perfectly and pulls way beyond the red line.

17.5 pilot jets and 110 mains for that combo. That should get you pretty close.
