ZN1100 throttle cables, one or two ?
14 Jan 2019 17:19
My 1985 ZN 1100 frankenbike project had been put together with an earlier KZ front end. So it had a 2 cable throttle set up but the extra cable was just tucked down between the carburators. Partzilla shows 2 cables in the parts diagram, but my Kawasaki service manual seems to only show one. The picture of the carb rack from the bike shows no attachment point beside the idle speed screw. I have 2 right side controls from 2 different venders that were both listed as '84-'85 ZN 1100. One has 2 cables, the other has 1 ? Any z11 owners out there ?

The parts diagrams at Kawasaki.com ( I suspect Partzilla uses the same ones) shows two throttle cables, but the throttle assembly bracket shown in the carburetor diagram seems to be designed for a single cable. Curious.

The parts supplier use the parts diagrams from the manufacturers, but it does not matter. If the carbs linkgage does not have the provision, you can not attach a second cable unless you change the carbs.
....in any case, the pull cable does all the work. The return cable is just for 'safety' in the very unlikely case the linkage spring breaks.....but cars (and older motorcycles) never had two cables when they had carburators...…..I believe all is because of the 'liability' of today.
