Hi first time on here but i just bought a 1979 KZ400 as a project bike and i pulled the carbs off and found a tear in one of the diaphragms. I've looked a lot but not finding any replacements is there any good carb swap options without using a split throttle cable but still using dual carbs. Any ideas???? Pls help

Do you live in the Ohio/Indiana border area? Me and another forum member were just talking about a 79 KZ400 on craigslist in that area. Coincidence or not, glad to see you here!

Not really. In order to avoid using a split throttle cable, you would need to have carbs that are connected together in a bank like the OEM carbs. I am not aware of any such aftermarket options, but you might be able to use the carbs from another model. The KZ440 would be the closest but I don't know what you would need to do with the carb boots and airbox connections. (The 400 and 440 carbs are not good candidates for pods).

The most common aftermarket carb replacement (I think) is a pair of Mikuni VM30s. These are not cheap but they're the best way to go if you want to use pod air filters.

To me, the early 400's using mechanical slides work well with pods... or at least they can be made to work as good as stock, and require a lot of tuning knowledge, but no more so than the diaphragm carbs. They are not simple carbs, but do work well with pods once tuned properly. The later ones using diaphragms are getting harder to find replacement diaphragms.
