Trying to bring this machine back to life.
9 years ago I had a pro go through carbs and learn me and got them set.

I did a quick clean of carb and got a super high rev as soon as she started on her own fuel.

Took carbs almost completely apart and spent 7hrs on them. After roughly 4 hrs research on this very helpful site.

Diaphrams all good, properly seated and move freely after light pokish w 1500.

All jets soaked and blown through and can see light through.

Only 1 bowl has overflow tube inside.

1 plug has bad oring. ( getting one shortly) it was seated tight but plu was misshapped.

2 floats sit higher and may be a different make. (When installed with tang on bottom)

Far left diaphram had minor crack. I repaired w jb weld and wet sanded smooth. I was careful not to let debris in.

Needle seats have been polished w brasso and q tip.

Needles look good under magnifying glass.

When I put gas bottle on carbs on bench they did not leak. On bike they leaked.

Ive read the topics about setting tang /float hieght but am a bit confused.

I plugged 3 left vacuum plugs and ran right one to petcock w tight hose.

All needles move up in seats equally at about 2 mm.

Reassembled tightened boots and she started and idleded but was sluggish to rev down after release of throttle and gas was dripping out of #3 drain nipple and wet on air intake side. (The only bowl w overflow tube.)

Questions:
Should needle tang be touching metal needle holder?

Do these floats look like they are in correct?

With bowls off and floats on I put gas from bottle in and no needles leak untill i pull float up

What is easiest to understand method for setting float height on bench.

My thougts are attach bowls fill w gas from bottle, put clear tube on drain nipple and make sure gas comes up to 2mm below bowl mating service after bend in tube.

Seeing hopefully 1 bowl will jump out as wrong.

Cant see your photos -You do not have permissions to access this page.-Make sure you have your head the right way round when working on the floats, it can be confusing sometimes if youve got the carbs upside down on the bench. I found the Clymer manual helpful for setting my float heights. It covered both the wet and dry method (wet method being more acurate )
I also had a problem with carb overflow which I traced to a faulty fuel tap (The vacuum type ) so maybe give that a look as well.

Finally got it sorted. The throttle linkage between 2 sets of 2 carb bodies was not linked. Pia but i got it linked. Bench tested w tube and it looked good. Put it on bike and it started w no leaky leaky. Cheap petcock is not letting gas drain and missing 1 plug wire but off to a good start.
