I would see what size your carbs have before spending the money. You just might have them already.

There are 107.5's in there now.

Started with 120 then went to 112.5 now at 107.5

Wouldn't hurt to check the fuel levels like Texas said and maybe see if the former owner went up on the pilot too..... 15s are stock and 17.5s are probably a step too rich with your set up.

Pages 131 through 138 have a lot of info on your carbs.

With just a set of V&H you should be fine with stock carbs and jets
If you want a little more pep go with a K&N air filter for better air flow and step up the jets 1 size bigger

You need to make sure the the air plug screws are set right, I don't think you have a Pilot jets on your year and check the colors of your plugs, (get new ones)

White is too lean and will make your engine run hotter, black is too rich and will foul your plugs, light brown is what you are looking for.

So since i have the K&N air filter i should step up to a 105?

Also is the clear tube method the preferred method for testing the fuel level? If so where can you purchase one of these tubes/screw combos? I assume there is way to make one of these using parts from a hardware store...correct?

The clear tube method is the only accurate way to test the fuel level. Before the tool was available from anyplace except Kawasaki (for $100.00+) I made my own fuel level tester using an extra carb bowl plug screw, two brass pieces from a hardware store, and some tubing (see image below). It cost me about $20 and a bit more than 1 hour of work. Not long afterwards you could buy the tool already made for less than I paid to make one. Considering that you can buy one now for less than $10 I would suggest simply buying one that’s already made rather than making your own; it will cost less and be a better tool.
