Still chasing the slow to idle return and while checking all jets today, found that I couldn't remove the needle valve.

This is the small jet that sticks up into the carb throat and the first place the needle enters before entering the needle holder just below. How does this come out?
Mine seems stuck?

Bike runs fine above 2000 rpm but always slow to return to idle and after reaching operating temps it does not want to return at all. and sometimes hangs at 2000.

Assuming you already tried this but you definitely should be able to push it down after you remove the main jet and the needle holder from underneath. Once they are out you can just push down on the needle jet from the top and it should pop right out.
