VM32 carb jet sizes for 79 KZ400 was created by GusFu
Hi all

Considering the seeming rarity of z400 airboxes in the UK I'm thinking about getting some Mikuni VM32 carbs for my bike.

Can anyone suggest what jets it should be running? The carb supplier said he hasn't done a Z400 before so wouldn't know what to recommend.

Will the pipes and air filter have an effect on the jet sizes?

Any help is appreciated - I'm desperate to get the bike going before the weather gets too shit.

Cheers

VM32 carbs are to big for a KZ400. Compare cylinder displacement of other motorcycles with vm carbs.
The Z1/KZ900/1000 came from the factory with VM26s and VM28s. With a cylinder displacement from 225.75cc to 253.75cc.
With to large of a carb ventri velocity will be low. Unless you are going to be spinning the engine over
6000 r.p.m. all the time I recommend vm28s.

Yes, air filter(s) and exhaust will affect jetting. Basically, the more freely they flow, the bigger the jets need to be. The quickest way forward would be to find a setup that somebody else has used successfully and copy it.
