36 years isnt too bad. Mine is leaking in the off position..a lot.. and I'm wondering what my best option is. Is it better to rebuild or ....wait....is there even another option?

Rebuild it with factory parts (if available) and it will be better than new. Here is a good tutorial written for Yamahas but applies to all.

Not an expert on the 305 but Partzilla looks like they have the packing which appears to be the only part you need if yours is of the non-vacuum type.
