kz750 vm34 carb issue or advancer issue
21 Jul 2018 20:49
Hi guys,
Ive been beating my head against the wall on this issue i have been having with my carbs
I bought a set of vm34's from dime cycle last year or so for the kz as i was having a hard time getting parts for the orginial carbs bs38's?...and didnt want to spend 300 dollars on another set and still have tuning issues
the carbs came with this setup
so i bought the linkage kit i bought new carb boots to fit the smaller carbs an uni pods for filters
the bike is setup 2-2 exhaust with flow through mufflers with a bit of baffling
now last year when i took it out it kept stalling out on me when i gave it a blip of throttle...if i ease into it gingerly or just come after it, works no problem, figured it was jetting, but never got around to it till this year
today i synced the carbs. but its still falling on its face if i blip the throttle off idle...above idle no issues
so i hook up my color tune spark plugs, its got a nice blue burn for idle and if you ease into it, its blue to slightly yellow ( blue is where it should be, white is lean and yellow is rich for those not familar with color tune) which should be fine as with load it would even out. but what im seeing is when i blip the throttle off idle it goes white...so lean...i frigged and fooled with the heights of the needles, with it getting a bit better but still there. after i gave up for the night i remembered these bikes have a mechanical advancer in it, is it possible that its that , that is causing me all the grief? im not familar with how you should test them? im assuming its centrifugal force with some sort of spring ( figuring it works kinda like a clutch on a weed eater
any thoughts on this, would love input from anyone that has vm34's an what their setup is

With a timing strobe light you will see if its advancing when you ease the throttle open.

well i pulled the ignition advancer apart cleaned it all up shiny and new then lubed it up, one spring seems a bit weaker than the other, but not sure how much that would affect it.. havent had a chance to fire it up...i got complaints yesterday for excessive noise.....
