gpz550 no idle when hot

project is taking longer than expected but... making progress!
background:
1984 Gpz550
just did a full carb rebuild.
had carbs synced at shop and double checked.
new plugs and wires.

Bike runs really good, starts easy, idles good and has power throughout power band (except a small hiccup around 9500 rpm . However, once hot it will not idle and dies. Is very hard to start after that. I would appreciate some advice on where to look.

Thanks,
-Lee

Some pics of the spark plugs are helpful
Looks like an enricher/choke issue = fat air/fuel mix

As Scirocco suggested, make sure the choke/enrichener rod's detent ball is in place. Without it the enrichener will dribble excess fuel into the carbs.

Thanks I will check that... I guess in each carb, right?

Thanks again for the link - I had forgotten about that. I used those pictures a lot over the winter while rebuilding the carbs.

How long since the last time the valves were adjusted? The valves tighten with mileage and once all the clearance is gone the valves hang open when hot resulting in hot running/starting issues followed by engine damage.

so you are EXACTLY right!   the choke will not lock into place and there is no spring/ball in there.   I am not sure if I lost it or not (A shopt had #3 apart since I put it back together)

but... the parts list says it is not available and the rebuild kit I had did not have it.   I went through all the extra/duplicate parts I had for the carbs.

Any idea where I can get this part?   seems very important to me.

Thanks,
Lee

Any bicycle shop should have loose ball bearings they should be able to sell you. I forget what size exactly it is. Just get one of each size they have. Hopefully they will be understanding.

if you post a new topic about tk27/26 choke rod ball, maybe someone with a spare set can measure it. I no longer have the carbs, and its possible I used a substitute ball anyway.

You might be able to get a generic spring somewhere and cut it to the right size based on trial and error if you can remember how the choke felt originally.
