'81 440 LTD

Hey all! Last week I got my first bike a 440 LTD off a nice old man, he had posted the add for 600 dollars, he ended up telling me to just take it for 200. I couldn't get it on the trailer fast enough. (I don't have cycle endorsement yet!) The bike had some modifications he had done, some were questionable in my opinion. But ran but bogged, he said he had the carbs (twin CVB 36) bore out, but couldn't tell me what specs. He gave me some bags with spare Jets, which he said he knew wouldn't fit. I got the manual, and began my long awaited journey in tearing down my first bike. Upon my removal of the carb. I noticed the butterflies we're not aligned allowing two holes on the top right and only half a hole on the left, upon looking to calibrate I noticed some more differences compared to the model I had displayed in the manual. I have since searched online for nights looking for a keihin like the one I had, and searching for the serial number. I cannot find anything. What should I do? I have nothing but time and eagerness to work and learn but I just need a little direction!

If so he had to renew the butterflies to the OD of the carbs bore!
Please measurement the carb bore OD in metric millimeter, maybe he switch the carbs from 32 to 36 OD why ever, bigger not even better.

Those carbs have not been bored. The jets may have been drilled which is a no-no.
Start by performing the tune up and maintenance as per a repair manual.
That includes valve lash and ignition timing. Make sure the ignition advancer is
working properly. The carbs look like they need to be synchronized. Also double check
jet size, I would get all new jets just incase someone got happy with a drill bit.
