Carb pop quietly 1/8-1/4 throttle was created by Thablastnotez
Hello! I have a 79 650, the bike came with filter pods(which I know cause all kinds of strange things but it is what it is). The bike runs great, I jetted it myself because it wasn't done correctly when I got it.

However, when I am at lower cruising speed 25-40 mph and BARELY on the throttle, there will be a light and quiet but consistent flutter or pop that comes from the carbs. But upon decent - hard acceleration it stops and the bike rips.

I am thinking maybe the pilot jet too lean? Although, richening up the air screws didn't do anything.

Ideas?

Are the carbs synced and the valves clearance checked???

Most likely ignition related; poor power to coils. Check this article:

The best and cheapest ignition mod ever for our old KZ bikes.
Unnecessary to say that you have to check your wiring harness and connectors for electric defects.
This mod is an optimization to the ignition circuit and not an all in one cure for the copper devils inside your bike.
Have to thank you wiredgeorge, your mod is a must have on my bike too.
