Carb cleaners was created by JamesGotfryd
What's a good carb cleaner to clean internals on an '82 1100 Spectre? Its been sitting a few years and I think the carbs are all gunked up inside. Nobody drained the gas tank and carbs or put fuel stabilizer in it. It will run if I squirt gas into the air intake.
Also can anyone tell me what the top end on it is? I haven't ridden it in about 17 years, just got it back, couldn't believe how its been treated. The guy just left it sitting in a barn collecting dust and junk piled up on it.

This may help you. zeus.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_...Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf

It might not match your carbs exactly but you will get the idea. Short cuts are long cuts so keep this in mind.

I cleaned a all my/friends carb sets with ERC carb dip.
This Honda carb set was full of brown and green brass oxid/fuel residue.
All parts separated 24 hours in dip let all part looks like new without an ultra sonic cleaner.
The carb cleaner is reusable and can be diluted with fuel.

^^^
$16.00/Liter + shipping from Germany.

That's a non-starter for those of us in the U.S. We'd like to try it though, if we could get it at a reasonable price.

Yes the price is not the cheapest one her in Europe but you are not able to get a better product that do the job better for the money and environment protection laws. Be in mind it´s reusable!!!
And the best thing is ERC carb dip is doing the job really good.
The old "hot" YAMAHA MR-2 carb dip (part# 90 890 700 72) was removed from the European market by environment protection laws.
Some people in other European bike forums want to analyze the ingredients for a remake!!!
If anyone have a canister or a little amount of MR-2 please pm me.

The Harbor Freight unit is a re-branded iSonic item. It's a very good unit at a bargain price providing the tank is deep enough to meet your needs. iSonic is one of the largest consumer-grade ultrasonic cleaner manufacturers in the world.

Don't allow large/heavy items to rest on the raised round area on the bottom of the tank. That's where the transducer is. It must be kept free of anything that would dampen the transmission of vibration into the cleaning solution. That includes a buildup of debris & gunk removed from parts being cleaned settling to the bottom.
