VM24SS Jets -Too Lean? was created by jt1000
I’ll start by saying I know this will be trial and error, but wanted to get a decent starting point. I have a 1978 KZ650B with VM24SS carbs. Bike will have UNI brand individual foam pods (cylinder shape not tapered), and a Kerker 4 into 1, most likely without the baffle. Currently we have the stock #15 pilot and stepped up to a #105 Main Jet. My initial thought is this will be too lean. I’m in Arkansas so low altitude (+/- 300ft). Any thoughts on if I should bump up both jet sizes or start here?

I went 17.5s and 110s maybe 112.5s with the baffle in. Many including myself has went to the 5th clip on the needle (up from the 4th stock) too but then some have not.

I never saw much of a improvement at all by taking out the baffle and it always seemed to run a little worse down low. I like my comp baffle with no packing good sound and not too loud to piss anyone off.

The 5th clip position is the last, correct? That didn't make the setup too rich?

Yes ....... mine seemed good but I'm hardly a expert...... you'll be running in warmer air maybe try the stock 4th for a while.

17.5 idle 110 main 1.5 to 2 turns out on mixture screw number 4 clip always worked good for me make sure your valve clearance is good and no vacuums leaks at your intake boots and it should be fine
