Bone stock 1982 750 CSR jets?
11 Mar 2018 23:44
Picking up my new (to me) 1982 CSR 750 twin tomorrow. I know it runs just a little lean. From what I've read they were setup this way from the factory for better emission numbers. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows which size main jet it would have had from the factory? The parts fiche lists 5 options from #110 to #120. I'm just hoping someone knows so that I can get the parts here before I take the bowls off, for a quick turn around.
Thanks!

I would not be so quick to assume that after 36 years the factory jets are still in there, or that somebody has not already addressed this problem.
If the bike still has the factory air box, filter and exhaust, all it may need is careful tuning. A washer under each needle and some quality time adjusting the low speed mixture may be all it needs.
I recommend performing ALL the routine maintenance BEFORE trying to make any changes. If the valves are out of adjustment or the air filter is really dirty, if some of the old vacuum lines are cracked and leaking, you could compound your problems by trying to compensate by changing jets.
Taking care of the routine maintenance will help prevent bigger problems down the road, and will make fine tuning much more effective.

The Kawasaki FS manual may specify the stock jetting. I would install new, correct, properly gapped spark plugs, then ride the bike; then check the color of them to see if the bike is running lean or whatever.
My 1981 KZ650 has the stock jetting which is supposedly lean, but the spark plugs always look good with a nice tan color.

Might be explained by fuel levels higher than spec.

No, the fuel level in each carburetor is set perfectly at 3.0 mm below the carburetor body as specified in the FSM.
1981 KZ750-M1 CSR BS34 carburetor specs from a pdf. I do not know if the 82 M2 is the same.
main jet = 115. needle jet = Y-9. jet needle =5C50. pilot jet = 45. starter jet = 70.

Well I'll have a look at those things when I get it home, but I'll be pretty surprised if any of them are at issue. The bike has 5k miles and looks and runs as if it rolled of the showroom floor less than a year ago.

The ones listed without "option" next to it are factory.

The fiche says "racing use only" for 110, 117..5, and 120. Leads me to think the factory jet would be either 112.5 or 115. Nonetheless I'm going to get my hands on a FSM and make sure everything is in spec before I start swapping parts. I was thinking shortcuts but I know better. That sort of thing always bites me in the... wallet.

There is a 750 twin manual here, though I did not look to see what years it covers.

Looks like it doesn't cover 82, though it's nice to know the previous year could take a #125. There are a couple of 82 750 M1 manuals on the bay. Think I'll grab one. Nice to have an actual hard copy so that I don't get the urge to take my laptop into the garage.

Those specs are for the 750B/G which have BS38 carburetors.
See my previous reply for the specs for the BS34s on the 750M1. The 82 M2 may be the same.
