KZ1000 Z1R fuel hose attachments was created by michaelcress
Hello,

I am trying to install a fuel tank on a 1978 KZ1000 Z1R and I have no idea where the various hoses go. The tank appears to have a fitting on the lower side of the tank, and the petcock has two fittings ( see attached picture named fuel tank hose attachments). The hose (which also has some sort of brass tube on one end) that is seen in the photo seems to match the diameter of the underside tank attachment, but is much larger than the two found on the petcock. This hose also seems larger in diameter that the fuel tee seen in the photo called "carb fuel tee".

I have included photos of the various hoses on the carbs to show the fuel dump and air breather tubes (I think?). The Clymer manual doesn't show how/where these hoses go. Does anyone have any clue as to how all of this gets plumbed together?

Thank you,

Michael

My educated guess.....
The four black hoses thar connect to the bottom of each carb are the overflow tubes.
The two clear tubes that connect between 1&2,and 3&4, are bowl vents. The bigun under the tank is likely the tank vent, got no idea why there is a brass fitting in the end of it.
There should also be a drain hose from the rear of the fuel sending unit cover.
All these plus the battery vent hose most likely go through a bracket behind the engine and hang down below and in front of the swingarm pivot.
That petcock does not look Look like a factory unit. I believe there should be a single outlet that connects to the fuel T between carbs 2&3.
I suppose you can hold yur finger over the other one while you ride.

TexasKZ is right, the Z1r uses a single outlet petcock (51023-1007) And the stock Z1r carbs only have a single fuel inlet tube.

Thanks everybody for your responses.

With respect to the tank vent, does it require a filter of some sort? Would it be ok to just run a tube and leave it open on the end?

Thank you,

Michael

All the ones I remember seeing vented to atmosphere except bikes with California emissions equipment that vented into a charcoal canister.

I cannot enlarge any of your attachments, I'll assume what you refer to as a tank vent hose attached to bottom of tank as shown in reference photo #19 20 and 21
That is not vent it is a drain hose in case you over fill the tank and get petrol in the recessed area of tank. There is a drain hole located under the gas cap mount screw

drain hole located here

This is poor photo . this is bottom of tank looking up through the hole into light. As you can barley see it just goes through the tank

poor photo sorry

and to answer your other question, yes just run a hose routed down under bike. The tank is vented from the tiny hole bottom of gas cap

cheers
