So I'm familiar with the lean drop method to adjust the mixture screw for a carb. Basically it involves turning the screw in until the idle stumbles, then turning it out until you get the highest rpms at idle and then setting it somewhere in between (there are lots of variations on this theme). How is this supposed to be applied to banks of carbs? Should one use the lean drop method for each carburetor? The thing is we usually hear something like "turn the mixture screws out 2 turns" implying they should all be at the same setting, but if you use lean drop on each carb they may be at different settings. Any thoughts?

Setting them all to the same number of turns out is just a starting point. Fine tuning each carb is as you describe.

OK, thank you, good to know. I read a bunch of threads on the lean drop method and never found mention of how to deal with multiple carbs. I wonder if people realize this.

I advise to set them all at 2.5 turns. Then tweak them in or out to achieve the highest idle. Many times you will see no difference in the idle when doing this so in that case just set them all the same. While you are at it be sure to vacuum sync the carbs too.

Colortune comes in handy when adjusting the fuel screws.

Would you do the vacuum sync before or after setting the idle screws? I'm at a dead start, just got a new rebuild kit in the carbs, idle screws set to 2.5 turns, and the carbs are synced by eyeball. Finally got it to idle yesterday so now I need to start tuning...
