float needle on cvb36

Been trying to bring my old carbs back to life. After a thorough clean and putting everything back together, I noticed that there aren't any clips holding the needle valve to the float. Is there supposed to be something there to connect the two or does the needle just sit on the float ?

Not sure what a cvb36 carb is but I do know that Mikuni CV type carbs of the KZ era sometimes have those clips and sometimes not. Don't think they are strictly necessary.
