Carburator adjusting was created by 78customkawi
I have a 78 kz750 twin with aftermarket cone filters and is straight piped. It idles fine but when throttle is applied it wants to cut out. Is even worse about cutting out when put into gear. Can anyone help me?

You should spend some time searching this site. There are several discussion threads on this very subject. What you will discover is that those carbs really do not like open pipes and individual air filters. You may never get it to run properly.

Like TexasKZ said, pod filters present a major challenge and straight pipes further complicate matters. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like a factory airbox has any chance of fitting in that frame so you're probably stuck trying to make the pods work. If you search this site (and the internet) for info on pod filters, you'll have lots of reading material. Plenty of guys have made it work well enough, but it won't be easy.

I wish you luck.

Pods can be made to work by re jetting (lots of info here) but an open exhaust will make it more difficult.

Be aware that some brands of cheap pods have a lip inside them which can block air jets on the intake side of the carb and no amount of rejetting will work. You should remove and have a look inside a pod. Good pods like K&N dont have that lip.

The absence of mufflers will create a problem since it reduces back pressure so much. There's a reason factory race bikes have mufflers even though they do not need to be concerned about noise. Good luck.

The alternative ( The route I took when faced with the same problem) is to take the bike to a tuners with a dyno bench. He will have the knowledge and parts to rejet your carbs and set up the bike for the best performance possible using your straight pipe and pods.
Itll cost (??) but it does away with the headache and the stabbing in the dark of trying to DIY.

(I had oversized pistons,K&N filters,a race pipe and no idea where to start with setting it all up. It now idles and runs all the way through the rev range with no problems. Well worth the money IMO.)

Those changes will alter the equation, if you will, but not necessarily in a way that makes finding the sweet spot easier.
IMO, the best way forward is either to take Davido’s advice, or search for builds where the poster claims to have figured it out and start with that jetting.
Be absolutely sure that the valve adjustments are at factory spec, that the ignition advancer is working properly, that the battery, coil and spark plugs are new or at least perfoming as new, and that the throttle cables are properly adjusted and operating smoothly, or you may end up chasing your tail trying to compensate for another problem by changing the jetting.
