Looking for suggestions please.

Pulled petcock from tank on subject bike today to rebuild. Picture shows how the in tank filter screen came out. Actually it was still holding by two of the little posts.

The filter is not a service part. The part broken off filters the “on” before getting to reserve which is still intact. I don't want to run without one. Yes, I'll have an inline after the petcock before the carbs,

Does anyone have any ideas on a replacement?

If I had a section of in-tank filter sock, I guess I could zip tie a portion of that on the end of what remains of the stock filter but it’s quite brittle and not sure I could fit that into the tank opening.

BTW, the kit backing shown came out of Taiwan off eBay for $10 shipped. Quality on par with K&L.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
Jeff

Just to clarify, you want a fix for the filter being broken right?

What is the filter material? This might be a long shot, but 3d print it? I might be able to get something printed, but how to get the filter in? I have access to PLA and ABS printers, with a quick google search says holds up to gasoline. Again just an idea.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThat's a rough situation.

If it was me, I would probably fabricate something using hobby brass tubing available at some hobby shops etc, and I'd get some super-fine stainless steel mesh... probably like 25 micron.

Here's some. Dirt cheap but you'd have to wait.

This place has stuff down to 10 micron, but you have to pay a lot ($5) :) .

Matt,

I'm not sure of the exact material but it looks similar to what Lou posted below. Thank you for a great idea, but I think I'm going to try Lou's brass tube suggestion if I can find the correct size.

Thank you both!

Jeff

I hope it works. I don't know why the screen is called "Rosin Tech". The description is stainless steel, so I hope it's not some plastic pretending to be stainless steel.

There is also metric brass tubing, but I only ever find that online, not in stores.

McMaster Carr is a great source for fabrication supplies like tubing etc. but you usually have to buy a lot more than you need.

I've found that high-end coffee machines use stuff similar to what we need for fuel filtering, if that's helps in the search.

Lou,

I ordered the rosin tech yesterday. What I'm planning to do is make a sock to attach to the top of the main or lower piece in my picture.
Going to try that first and if it doesn't work, then go the tubing route.

Thanks,
Jeff

Other possible solutions. (1) repair the stock screen using Seal-All or Permatex liquid metal. The permatex stuff dries to the consistency of a plastic. I've used it to repair a small leak on the low fuel switch at the fuel tank & to re-attach the fuel port on the petcock. both repairs were done several years ago. no leaks. It's also good to seal electrical connections after crimping.

(2). get an inexpensive petcock off of eebbaayy & fit the pickup tubes to the stock petcock. It would be handy to know beforehand the sizes of the orifices & tubes. There are quite a few different fuel cocks listed for Yamahas & some of the oem units are inexpensive.
Yamaha OEM --- EB search = yamaha fuel cock .... ..... .... Aftermarket fuel cock.

Martin,

Thank you as well for your response.

I bought a tube of Seal-All yesterday on the way home with the intent of using it to attach the mesh cloth to the main piece of my original in-tank filter.

Truth be told, I bought an inexpensive replacement petcock off the bay that fits the tank opening and bolt hole spacing but it has a few issues:
- both the vacuum and fuel port point straight down. I knew this but had hoped I could make it work.
- the vacuum and fuel ports (cast aluminum) are much smaller OD than the dimensions shown in the listing and than the original petock.
- the brass tubes and filters on the tank side are much smaller than the openings in the original petcock too. The ID of the filters is only 4.2mm and I have a feeling they would have restricted fuel flow too much.

This is what led me to look for a DIY solution. It would have cost me as much to send the petcock back as I paid for it, so I just threw it in a box.

Thanks,
Jeff
