Air Pod help??
24 Aug 2017 16:54
So I am currently looking at getting air pods for my 1977 KZ1000 A1 duye to the air box being taken off by the last person that had the bike.. My question is what size air pod do I get for the engine breather? you know the spot right below the carbs that blows air out usually hooked to the OEM air box by a hose. Also what shape of pod should I go for? I know that the size I need is 42mm but should I get the cone, oval, round, or some other type?
Sorry for all the questions but my Bday is on the 30th and I would really like to be able to take my bike out for a ride on my Bday.
Thank you,
Shawn

BTW I have read on many different threads that pods are a major no no. I am not planning on keeping pods on the bike I just figured it would be better to get some cheap ones to go for a small ride with due to not having the air box. I wanted to let you guys know this because I have seen many newbs get roasted for asking about pods

As Martin noted, cheap filters can be more trouble than they are worth, some are so poorly designed that they block the air jets in the mouth of the carbs, making it impossible to tune them. Even with the best ones, you will have to spend some time tuning the carbs to them, most likely having to install different jets, to get the engine to run properly with them.
The danger here is that the individual filters will make the fuel mixture really lean. In extreme cases, riding the bike in that condition can lead to internal engine damage. With a stock exhaust system, you may be able to get it to run down the block and back, but I would not risk it.
