Need csr650 carb help was created by turbospark
Hello guys and gals. New to the forum, and had already posted on the newbie section. I'm having an issue with the '81 csr650 I'm restoring. I need a set of mikuni carbs that work or may just need a little work for them to put on my bike to finally start her up. The carbs I have been tampered with and who ever did so messed up one of them bad plus they are clogged beyond belief. Any advice in what to use to soak them in? I'm going to need parts to try to fix them up so if anyone has something give me a shout please. I know that the throttle valve and needle on the #1(far right) are fubar. The needle is bent and the valve itself is gouged somewhat, I guess from someone prying on the thing to free it up. Everything else is just stuck with old gunk from old gas. The other carbs do go up and down (throttle valve) but stay up except on #4 that comes down by itself. So any help will be greatly appreciated because I have to get her going really soon because I have to give my brother his car back and I have no other means of transportation. Thanks and hope someone can help with something.

Long story short. Read this

if you not have any carb dip you can use a citric acid / water in a 1 to 10 mix head it up for 30 minutes in an old cooking pot.
DonĀ“t boil it, 60 degrees Celsius is still hot enough.
You have to separate the brass and aluminum / zinc parts to prevent chemical reactions ( discoloring).
After this clean the part with soapy water to neutralizes the acid.

Myself use this carp dip with very good results. You can dilute it with fuel and it is re-usable.

This carb set was full of oxidations and a thick layer of brown/green debris in the float bowls.
Sorry have missed to make some before pics

Thanks for the info Scirocco. Does anyone know what carbs would be a direct swap or good to scavenge parts from? I still need the throttle valve, needle and diaphragm for mine...

I will have to get some tomorrow in the morning and try to post them in the afternoon. I have to do some work with my father but will sure take some. As far as I can see they are the mikunis but can't remember the numbers. They should be the original ones. This bike is an '81 with only 13k miles....That's why I'm trying to get her going and have a cafe eventually.

IIRC in 81 the 650 csr came stock with Mikuni vm24ss carbs. Do yours have an accelerator pump or not?

Are you certain the bike is an 81 model? I'm asking because the 82-83 650-CSRs came stock with BS32 carburetors.
You can check the vin & engine numbers at the jarlef z650 site. fyi. there's a pdf manual in the Files section.

note: the date of mfg listed on the vin label isn't necessarily the model year.

edit: from the vin label below the vin lookup at Kawasaki.com indicates that it's an 82 KZ650-H2.

Your motorcycle is a fairly early 1982 KZ650-H2. The first 1982 KZ650-H2 VIN number was JKAKZEH1CA012601. Just like cars, motorcycle production for each model year begins in the previous model year. Otherwise in January there would be little or no new cars or bikes available at the dealer. See the bottom of the link below to verify the VIN / Model year & model. Ed
