BS30/97 Air Jets

Having a clear understanding of jetting and the relationship of carb circuits is crucial to achieving and maintaining a finely tuned engine...so I keep telling myself.
According to the image text below, the [strike]Pilot[/strike] Air Jet directly affects the Main Needle Jet, not the Pilot Jet...duh.

Was surprised to find out about this on the 29s SB a while back too although I think its more for the main jet on them. Pictured it helping or changing the pilot too for as long as I owned them.

These carbs are a trip...
Figured I would try a set of 22.5 Pilot Jets (w/same 0.8 Air Jets) to see how the low-end would respond.
First thing was to adjust the [strike]Air[/strike] Fuel Screws IN from 1 full turn out+/- to 1/4 to smooth out the idle. Did that and took a ride. Of course, the rain that had been holding off all day decided to chase me around. The majority caught me as I pulled in my driveway. By the time I got the garage opened and the car out...well, I could just as well left the bike outside.
The engine starts easier and idles better than before, but is sluggish pulling away from stops and lacks the overall crisp responsiveness it had with 20's. If something else needs adjustment to compensate, I don't know what that is. I may be better off just changing the jets back again... :S
My hope was 122.5 would richen the low-end and help "pin it" (quote Les), but this change ain't gett'n it so far. Perhaps I just made the carbs too-rich again...and rainy-air humidity doesn't help either.
38 minutes later:
The rain stopped, and I'm going back out...bye.

Thought I was confused. Note the note (lower left) about the PILOT SYSTEM :S
