Hello!

I am planning to rebuild my motorcycle to more minimalistic style and i would like to lose the original air filter box.
What experience do you have about this?
I have heard that paper pod air filters are really not reccommended, even if a good built quiality (K&N).
What about foam filters? Should i use one big filters for two carbs or one filter for each?
Is it necessary to change the carb jets aswell ?

K&N pods are the best. Uni or Ape pods are second best. Emgo (generic) type are junk.

You will have to rejet the carbs extensively before the bike will run right. There is a trial and error aspect to that process so good luck with that.

All this has been discussed countless times before so don't forget to search out information to your questions.

Thanks for answering.
I know that K&N manufactures good products but my question is more general.
I have heard that pod filters ruin the engine in couple of years and loosing the original filterbox is basically death to the system... is it really so risky step? Does someone have that kind of bad experience?

If you are going to replace your airbox and all the parts that go along with it, I would be interested in buying the airbox off you. I have a1983 KZ750 twin belt that did not come with any sort of filter. Let me know?

They will not ruin the engine, but they may ruin your patience and dwindle your savings.

The pods may not filter particles as well as the stock filter, but assuming they are a decent brand I seriously doubt that's a problem that causes pod filters to ruin an engine. I suspect a much more likely scenario is one in which the owner gives up trying to find the correct jetting combination or simply doesn't know re-jetting is required and ends up ruining the engine by running an air/fuel mixture that is so lean at certain rpm that is overheats things or one that's so rich that the engine runs like crap.

Re-tuning CV type carbs, such as those that came on the KZ750, for pods is not a task for the weak in spirit or wallet. Ed
