If there does not appear to be any damage to the slide or the carb body you may want to try that slide in each of the other carbs. It's possible that previous owner mixed parts between carbs and it's possible (slim chance, I know) that for some strange reason that slide may work ok in its original carb. Ed

Appreciate all of the Responses ! I did go down to HF and purchase a pack of polishing cloth wheels and used the Mother's polish I've been using. Ran the dremel back and forth inside the carb. bore and slide is moving easier than before. May quit where I am at. No where near the biding it had before.

Ed, I don't think the carbs. were ever apart but this slide from #1 did work the same as #2's slide inside #2's carb. which moves very freely. I can try using this slide from #1 in other carb. bodies but wasn't trying to get anything mixed up,

Would it be okay to Mix and Match the slides ?

That would depend on how worn they are. Do you see any witness marks?

I thought the slides may have been swapped around into different carbs by a previous owner, but if you believe the slides are still in their original carbs I would not mix and match them. I'm under the impression that carb components wear together and do not like to be put into different carbs. Ed

Steve, What do you mean by witness marks ? This slide from #1 did have a little surface scratches, not sure how they got there but as I said before, it was hard to remove from the carb. body.

Scratches are a witness mark. Look closely where it rides.

The scratches are below the surface of the carb. slide. One I thought was a little deep, but didn't appear to leave anything in the carb. bore where it aligns itself with ?

I'm making progress with the dremel cloth buffer with the polish. certainly much better than before with slide movement up and down.

You mention 2 fits nice in 1... how about 3 and 4? mixing bits not recommended usually but may be a better diagnostic in the absence of precision measuring equipment and factory specs... trust your hands here and feel it. Slides do wear, particularly with bellmouths or pods.

Maybe try to asses the wear on each slide before going in too heavy on the wet and dry paper. Look for witness marks or any sign of the tight spot.

Too much clearance slide/carb body will lead to carb balance issues, but sticky slides will be untunable and could be lethal. The slide carb gpz's had two throttle cables: open and closers for this reason.

I tend to lube the slides with engine oil. Would there be a case for polishing slides longitudininally or axially..as in oil retention surface vs frictional co-efficent ?

Actually it was the slide from #1 that fits nicely and smooth in #2 carb. body.
