IF A TURTLE DOESN'T HAVE A SHELL, IS HE HOMELESS OR NAKED?
VM 29 A12 smoothbores was created by Buster
I have a set on my 1075 with 4-1 and pods. These have the 2.0 cut away slide. Main is 120 , pilot is 20. Will only idle with air screw full in. Anyone running the 2.0 slides? What size pilot are you running? Definitely getting too much air as is. If I go way up on the pilot will I need to drop the needle and go a little smaller on the main?

Just my 2 cents. Up the pilot to 22.5 and forget about the needle and mains. If it runs fine now off idle to red line, your mains and needle are fine. Those are two different circuits and very little overlap. Actually with larger pilot you may find the transition from idle to mid range throttle smoother and more responsive throttle.

The air screws on the vm29s are different than on the other (smaller) Mikuni carbs. There is a hole near the end of screw that the other carbs air screw do not have. Due to this hole the screw needs to be set differently than the other type of screws.

So I went with 25 pilots and 120 mains. Huge difference! Idles great and runs strong from idle to WFO. Thanks all!

I'm about 1/2 a turn out on all of them. Do you have the 2.0 slides in your 29mm smoothbores?

OK, the 1.5 slide cut away doesn't flow as much air at idle. You might find you can need to open the air screws a bit more to get good idle and low speed perf. 120 mains, 20 pilots and 1.5 slides are the start point for a stock 900. You should be pretty close with a hopped up 700.
