Thats a huge difference in length ...... didn't the floats need adj big time to get the level right or did the seats do it..... new originals might be better here?

What cleaning method was used?
Sometimes it's possible to use a q-tip in a cordless drill with some carb cleaner or Brasso to clean and polish the seats.
Could also closely examine the needle tips and perhaps polish the tips with a buffer.
The needle should freely drop of its own weight when not held inside the seat.
Good Fortune!

I soaked the needles and seats in cleaner overnight and I used a q tip in a drill to clean out the seats.

A piece of gray scotcbrite, preferably a piece that's a little worn out to knock down the grit level, cut into a strip and stuffed inside the float valve will help scrub it out. Stuff the piece inside and then press down while turning it around a few times to clean out any varnish or sludge that may be down inside.
The problem with aftermarket needles is the spring is weak so the seat pressure is low. It's customary to have to raise the float when using aftermarket float needles. You can get real deal Mikuni float seats w/needle for good prices off Amazon. It takes a little searching to be sure to match up the right size and number so take your time. Jets R Us has the dimensions so you can compre.
