1981 kz440 ltd vm30 swap help!!! was created by TravisMat
hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had experience with a duel vm30 swap on a 1981 kz440 ltd, my problem is not getting fuel through the carb I put on a fuel splitter and the fuel just isn't coming out the jets, i was thinking maybe there's a way to install a fuel pump or something.
i would appreciate any information, i couldn't find any other topics on this but I'm new to the forum so I'm not very good at maneuvering it yet, so if there is any topics on this please just point me in the right direction

I use 2 VM30s on my 76 KZ400. Never had a problem with fuel flow, though I suspect that your petcock is one that uses vacuum instead of free-flowing. Are the settings on the petcock On (or Run), Reserve and Prime or is it Off, On, and Reserve? If it is the first set then you do have a vacuum actuated petcock, you'll need to supply a vacuum source for fuel to flow.
I don't know if there is a vacuum port on the MIkunis that you can route to the petcock. A little research and you can figure that out. If there is not then you may have to swap petcocks for one that is not vacuum actuated.

If you do have a vacuum operated petcock for a short-term fix just to test that the carbs work properly you can switch the petcock to prime, which bypasses the vacuum and gravity-flows.

the fuel flows to the carbs, but the fuel just wont go though the jets, its probably something extremely simple I'm not used to working on carburetors, could it be a carb tuning problems?

Have you checked the fuel level in each carb using the clear tube method as described in the factory service manual?
Are you absolutely certain that all of the jets and tiny passageways are perfectly clear? A spray can of carb cleaner with the little tube inserted into the nozzle is a good test. Yes, the carbs must be removed. Be careful. Wear safety goggles and do not spray toward your face.
Are the carbs perfectly sealed to the carb holders and are the carb holders perfectly sealed to the head? If they are hard and cracked, the answer is no, and they need to be replaced.
