Getting fed up! Please help. was created by matlock
I have an 82 kz750 spectre. I have rebuilt to top end, taken apart the carbs and chem dipped all jets and bodies. (Yes I put them together correctly) and this damn thing still won't start! It wants to sometimes. It'll spudder for a second but never start. I'm at the end of my rope with this thing... I have no idea what is wrong. Valves are adjusted to spec, brand new rings.... I'm at a loss... Any advise would be very appreciated...

Have you checked for spark?

Do the spark plugs have fuel on them? (indicating that fuel is being introduced into the engine)

Do you have a vacuum-type fuel petcock? If so, did you turn it to 'prime' before trying to start the engine? (The carbs were completely empty when installed, so you need to prime them before the engine will run.)

Do you have a new or known-good battery? (Using a meter and getting 12v from the posts does not necessarily indicate a good battery.)

Are the plug wIres in the proper order? One coil fires 1 & 4 the other fires 2 & 3. The primary wires can get mixed up, too.

I'm having same trouble. Did you check compression? What about the coils and spark plug leads?

My compression was fine but the coils are pretty much kaput (only reading 11,000 ohms instead of recommended 15,000) leading to no spark. Could be what's going on with yours.

Let me know when you find out
