Thanks for the input, guy's.
The rubber air boots must have been designed with velocity stack benefits in-mind. The shape is essentially identical down to the trumpet shaped openings concealed within the air box chamber.
I assume the air box openings (snorkel and square-shaped hole behind the air filter) were sized to complement the BS34 CV carbs and restrictive (?) stock exhaust original to the bike.
Since my engine has been spiced up a little (exhaust, carburetor, and top-end), does it follow that the air box needs modification to compensate, or will it simply allow increased air volume to pass through just as it is?

My adding the vents didn't seem to help at all. In fact they seemed to cause problems.

I recall you despise pods
But, have you ever had em on those Smoothies?
Re. sealant on the spacers you suggested: "As long as they don't leak, they should work fine.
Steve"
Maybe a chance the spacers won't need a gasket or sealer at all? I'd be extremely-happy with that!

You will need sealant. I ran pods for a few years. I took them off when miller told me about the vortex effect. He was right. The vents created the same issue.

cool "dead" air , laminar flow ...,
Although I have had great success with pods it obvious from the new bikes and new cars, NASCAR,, etc air boxes are the way to go.....
Now the engineering behind them to make them work WAY WAY over my head!!
