81 KZ550 LTD stock carbs?
14 Nov 2016 09:41
I am looking at an 81 KZ550 ltd and it has what looks like VM26 carbs. Was that stock? I would have thought in 81 BS32 CV carbs would have been stock.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

The 550's used TK carbs. Early models used 22mm mechanical slide TK's that looked similar to Mikuni VM's from a distance. Starting in 1982 there were some CV TK's installed on at least some models, the GPz for example. I'm not an expert regarding the history but if Mikuni BS's were installed it wasn't until the later years.

Thanks nessism. I'm looking at a picture of the bike and knew they weren't CV so I thought I'd ask. They have PODS with 4 to 1 VH installed but the bike supposedly runs good. I had an 83 and as I remember it had small CV's. They worked great and that bike ran like a bat outta H_LL.

All of the early 550's had Tk-22 carbs. They look like this:

They are very simple, basic carbs.
The later Kz550's, like your 550M, had different variants of the Tk-26 CV's.
Then the Zx550's had Tk-27 CV's.

Thank you all for the good info. I haven't bought the bike, just looking and you guys confirmed that it stock. I would shy away from a bike with unknown intake system or really any major modifications.
