I am looking for some advice on jetting and setting up the carbs on an 81 GPZ 550 that has the original carbs with pod filters, and a wiseco 615cc kit, and a 4 into 1 with a Kerker pipe. Currently it seems to be running lean, the engine gets too hot too quickly and runs rough. I know tuning carbs is a bit of an art form, but I can learn. I look forward to hearing from anyone with some good experience in this area. Thanks!

Before you even touch the carbs further, do yourself a favour and buy a good vacuum tool (can be gravity balance or the dial gauges) and a Colortune unit (for balancing your pilot circuit). I did a similar build with my 650, and fooled around way too much without the tools. Once I got the tools, I was amazed at how fast I got the carbs to balance and get the bike running at it's top performance. Spend the little bit on the tools to save you endless hours down the road on tinker time.

And please use at least 1 fan on high to keep the motor cool while syncing and using the color tune. Also Check out loudhvx's profile for all the info on the GPZ....... Whups Patton beat me too it. ;)
