So this is my first bike and overall it runs good but it has some issues I don't know too much about. First off the carbs are screwy. The guy said they probably need to be synced but anyway I start and run it on half choke. Once I get it started and in gear I can turn off the choke and it will stay running but won't idle and even while driving it will try to cut out if I let off the throttle. Does anybody have any experience with these. Where is the idle control? I heard from a guy who's had a couple that the 81 has a better carb system. I ran some k100 fuel stabilizer through and it didn't seem to help any. Also after a 15-20 minute ride it won't idle in neutral it will eventually cut out if I don't play with the throttle

Welcome aboard!
Spend some time searching the forum, and you will likely find the information you seek.
Many previous owner bikes have been modified, so anything you can provide will help someone help you.
Posting a few pictures specific to your question may generate answers as well.
I can say from experience is that these old bikes require lots of hands-on attention to keep them working properly. Each project needs to be approached with patient determination, then you will be rewarded with improved safe operation and performance.
Enjoy your 1100!

The carbs are numbered from left to right 1-2-3-4. Below the carbs between 2 and 3 is a knurled knob sticking downward. Twist that knob clockwise to increase idle speed. Give it 1/2 turn and see if the bike will idle. Once you get that knob in far enough so the bike idles on it's own you can use that same knob to fine tune the idle so it is about 1000 rpm. Blip the throttle control a couple of times and let it come back to idle. Then further fine tune if you like. Should idle between 900 and 1100 rpm and be smooth. If you hear sounds like a chain rattling or a knocking sound a carb sync by someone who knows how to sync carbs should smooth out the idle and make that knocking noise go away.
Don't fix it until it's broken.

Inconsistent idle is usually a sign of being too lean, which these bikes certainly were from new. Open the idle mixture screws up a 1/4 turn and try it, might even go a 1/2 turn. Those are on the top front of each carb. When it's close to being right, on a warm day you should not need choke to start from cold.
