Ok, I am brand new to the forum, and brand new to working on the bike, a 1982 kz650 h2 csr. When I bought the bike it was very hard to start, and it was having a little trouble idling. I took it around the block a few times and every single time, it died when I would let off the throttle to coast down a hill in first gear. So I figured it was time to start working on the carbs. The previous owner of the bike decided to put pod filters onto the bike and throw away the stock air box. He then proceeded to "mod" the Jets (as he put it) which I'm sure means he drilled them. When he was finishing up and putting the carbs back together he put a bunch of rtv on the float bowl gaskets, which then got into the system and gunked up the pilot jets and the float bowl. I removed the float bowl needle screens and there was a bunch of rust packed in the gas lines like mortar. That's about all I found wrong with the bike. So my questions are, should I abandon the pod filters in place for the stock airbox, should I replace the all of the Jets or just the ones that are clearly messed up (ie: stripped on top), and will I need to do anything else that I'm missing? This will be my first motorcycle and I am extremely excited about getting the bike in running order so any help you guys can give would be much appreciated.

The 82 has BS32 cv carburetors, so I would definitely install the airbox. you should be able to use one from any 81-83 650-CSR or some of the 750-4 chain drive models, particularly the 750E & 750H models. My 81 650-csr airbox has KZ750E/H embossed in the plastic. the 750H Ltd has the same frame as the 650-csr. the earlier 650 airboxes are different.

Kawasaki service manual. If you don't have a manual, search eebbaayy for KZ650 manual & get the 81-82 factory service manual. if there's an 81-83 manual, you could get that as well, but I have a nos version & the pages aren't glossy, so it's of lower quality. the clymer is vexing to use with the csr as you have to continuously flip back n forth to the supplements. doh.

Thanks for your reply, I've already purchased an airbox on eebbaayy, and I noticed that it does say kz750E/H. Also I've gotten a manual and I wish I would have known about the other manual because I got the Clymer one and its pretty annoying to go all the way to the supplement to see what's different about the 82

The 81-82 manual is usually available on eebbaayy. $25T or less isn't uncommon.

Z1Enterprises.com has the airbox ducts. new should be soft & flexible. old ducts can be rock hard.
