Thinking of running stacks? I love the look and can't believe I never bought any. I ran a open air box from 81 to 83 then open 29mm smooth bores from 83 to 2004 till the manifolds went to hell then switched back to the 24mm carbs open till 06 when I parked it till 2012 and did the hop ups...... I only lost 5 psi in 3 cyl and 10 in the one that was scored up from when I bought it..... had 160 in 2 cyl 155 in one and 145 in one when I bought it (with 1,700 miles) and like I said only lost 5 in the 3 and 10 in the one that was damaged after 30,000 miles....... I now run the APE pod filters but honestly I don't think running open carbs are as bad as most think ...... a lot on here are gonna think I'm full of it and that's fine I admit I'm no were near a expert on the subject :silly:

Stacks are very cool looking, indeed. :)

Stock BSA Gold Star is a magnificently beautiful example.

Some have screens to keep larger objects from entering the carb bore.
And screens are sometimes separately available as add-ons for otherwise screen-less stacks.

But of course the screens don't serve as replacement for an air "filter."
Hence, best to avoid sand storms -- even dust storms -- when riding with stacks.

And the truth is that seemingly clean clear air, even after a rain, will undoubtedly contain invisible minute particles that are harmful to engine internals when ingested.

Good Fortune! :)

Yea! Sorry. the mount opening only measured 40mm the back was 70mm. I found 3 of them from in the bottom back of a tool box that I used in the late 70's I assumed 3 cylinder 2 stroke. But as I researched, it came back to me 750 SOHC.
But maybe someone out in the world is looking for 3 velocity stacks to mount on the back of 3 - 40mm backs of carbs.
They will look good on my collectible wall too. Ya want a picture? I will finish restoring them! Not many people cut the stainless steel screw clamp down to fit neatly, then polish them knowing they are Stainless Steel. Then cut round mesh screen to put in the back with the
wintergreen oil - (methyl salicylate) softened rubber trim grommets. But, that's just me!
Sorry for any confusion.

Besides BSA Gold Star, there might be certain former models from other motorcycle manufacturers that were showroom examples with open stack intakes on the carbs.

Possibly Moto-Guzzi???

The Gold Stars weren't touted as long distance touring models. :woohoo:

Good Fortune! :)

A buddy of mine used to ride his 750 Norton Commando with this stacks on the Amal carbs
He would wrap the bell flair with a couple layers of his girl friend's nylon stockings and rubber bands and call it good!!

A little -- maybe a lot -- off subject, but have used and know of others using a stocking over the end of the clothes dryer vent pipe where the dryer vents to the interior (as opposed to the outside). The stocking traps most of the lint, but this method creates a lot of humidity in the room, which is a bad idea in a garage where dampness is a no-no (eg., motorcycle parked in the garage).

Good Fortune! :)
