That's an option but, with limited success. I have seen shrink tubing used over the old tubes. Still makes them stiff and difficult to work with. I used rack and pinion boots. Perfect seal at both ends. Easy to get on and off the carbs. Over 5 years on mine now and no signs of deterioration.

Briliant idea, do you have a specific part number or what? Any details on this would be very helpful.

Bikes: 82 kz750 CSR, 03 Suzuki gsf1200s (stage 2), 73 CB 750 bored to 849, big cam, ports head, big valves, lots of other goodies....

The part number I used from Moog is in Biquetoasts blog at the bottom. They are a little pricey at $25 a pop but well worth it to me. There are probably other brands available that you can save a buck or two on. Just have the counter man do a cross reference in their system or look on their shelf for test fit. Get the right orientation before cutting. Be sure to sandwich the bellow between the box and the ring as shown. I use the OE carb springs around the throat of the carb but it's really more for cosmetics than necessity. You should be GTG.
