What is this? VM?? Carbs?
11 May 2016 21:16
I just recently learned these are probably KZ carbs on my 78 GS550.
Can anyone give me more details? The accelerator pump is cracked and leaks bad. Need a new one, so one of those would be great as well!

I've never seen anything like that. You may want to post a picture showing the whole carb. Here's what KZ650 VM24 carbs with the pump look like. Ed

Ignore the yellow tape. That was me trying to create a temporary fix just so I could move it, I do not currently have a truck.
These carbs are a mystery!

That's probably an aftermarket accelerator fuel pump. I would consider removing it. or get a replacement set of carburetors.

Those look like Mikuni VM22SS carbs that have been modified quite a bit. The right side of the image below shows VM22SS carbs. You can tell they are 22mm carbs by the orifice in the 10:00 position (see arrow). The VM24 carbs do not have that orifice. As Martin pointed out the VM22SS carbs did not have a pump, so someone has added that to your carbs. It looks like whoever added the pump did not pipe it out to all the carbs. Carbs with the pump have lines extending to them from the pump and different bowls (see 2nd image of VM24 carbs with pump).
Someone also added the plumbing that sticks down into the carb throats. If it was my bike I would replace them with unmolested carbs. Ed

New info - I guess they are just moded carbs with an aftermarket accelerator pump that is no longer available.
Looks like I will be getting some new carbs for the bike...
thanks all for the input!
