Hi, guy's! I really hope someone can help me.

I just finished repainting my bike and as soon as I had it all back together and everything hooked back up I put some fuel in it and double checked for leaks and happily found none. I decided to ride it down to the gas station for more fuel which is about a half mile. Got there and noticed nothing unusual so I filled up and headed home. As I pulled to a stop in the driveway I could smell gas. I quickly shut it down and saw the #4 carb was leaking a small stream of gas from the overflow. Couldn't figure out how to stop it so I got a funnel and gas can and let it collect. It drained the entire tank!! My first thought was a stuck float but I wanted to get some more info if possible. Hopefully I can avoid having to pull the carb apart. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Step 1 - Give us a clue as to what model and year motorcycle you are dealing with. They are not all the same. If you add that info to your signature line next to your name you will never need to remember to include it in your text. Ed

Add a new petcock to your shopping list. Unless you had it on Prime there should be no fuel flowing when the bike is parked.

If you have a manual petcock, it'll be located at the bottom of your gas tank on the left side. You can shut off the gas to the carbs by turning the petcock to the OFF position (little handle points forward, parallel to the ground). RUN is handle straight down, and RESERVE is handle straight up. Sounds like a stuck float.

My new (used) ebay carbs had old shrunken, dried out o-rings stuck to the float valves, which allowed them to literally fall out when the retainer screws were removed.
I suspect those o-rings were letting fuel get past the outside of the valves, even though the needles were seated, and the floats were doing their job...the likely cause of a persistent fuel drip from the overflow tube, as was noted in the sellers description.

From the avatar looks like a KZ650SR or LTD. If still running the original setup, it sounds like the petcock is bad and also the #4 needle/seat in that carb.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
