82 CSR 750 Twin, AB-> PODS / MPG
07 Apr 2016 11:26 - 07 Apr 2016 13:34
Recently purchased an 82 CSR 750 twin. Runs great form what I can tell. Purchased with pods, no stock air box. It has been re jetted. Pilot JET is 50 i believe, will have to double check on the Main. Here are my issues.
-After idling, occasionally first twist will backfire in carb/pods.
-Also sometimes it sputters during acceleration in 4th when up around 4-5k rpm.
-some back firing during decel, but decreases when bike warms up.
-Main Issue: I'm getting around 25 mpg on avg... which based upon my reading and the stock specs is terrible.
I understand pods and bigger jets will affect fuel efficiency, but it should not cut it in half. I have yet to do a valve adjustment or a carb sync, which I plan on doing in the next week. If that doesn't solve my issue, than I am going to find a stock air box and jet-down to stock specs.
Any tips or ideas? Also.. Where the hell can I find a stock air box.. I've looked everywhere but to no avail. Thanks.

Check with the guy in the link below. If he decides not to put his airbox back on he may be willing to sell it. Ed

Sounds like it's running lean. The terrible mileage is because screwing up the air mix means you have to open the throttle a lot more to get power to run and that eats gas. Mileage on my 750 twin has alwys been around 40 mpg city only and about 55 highway cruise.
