Too big of jets can cause the rings to "wash out" thus making it burn oil and smoke.

I agree but if hes having a cold start issue

I adjusted valves 200-300 miles ago.

I still blame it on the pods, but as Steve said, who am I to say. I just know all the KZs I've owned with pods were a real bear to start, where those running stock airbox always start right up. On my KZs with pods I just got used to using the kick starter and getting lot of leg exercise.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

My 650 is highly modded including pods on vm24 carbs fires right up even after winter storage. I have owned the bike since New, 1978, in stock form it was a bitch to start cold. Swapping in 17.5 pilot jets helped a lot.

He is also having cam chain issues. A sloppy chain can cause a out of time condition resulting in a cold starting issue. The bike in question obviously needs a rebuild. :whistle:
