I have a 1983 gpz750 and need help tuning the carburetors. I bought the bike with pod filter and a Vance and Hines pipe. The choke didn't work so I thought I would up jet the carburetors. I changed the pilot jets from stock 37.5 to 40 and the mains from a 132.5 to 120 because the stock main was 110. Anyway, I put it back together and it won't start. It initially overflowed but it turns out I put the fuel hose on the wrong fitting. Where should I start in trying to tune this?

Step 1) Clean the carbs properly. This tutorial may help... zeus.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_...Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf

2) order up a Dynojet kit

3) Make sure you have real K&N or APE pods, not junky Emgo throw away pods.

4) check function of the petcock. No fuel should flow with the lever set to ON or RES unless there is a vacuum source pulling the diaphragm open. Also make sure there is no fuel back flowing down the vacuum line and into the carbs which often happens when the diaphragm is damaged.

Good luck

Just to throw in my .02 here, I just did a jet kit for my 83 GPz last night, I am also running pods and the jets it had me put in were 42.5 pilots and 132.5 mains for 1/4 and 135 on 2/3 so I'd say maybe put the bigger jets in as a start, and maybe try working with the idle mixture screws too.

This indicates a dirty enrichment circuit. Do as Nessism suggests. Was the bike running before with that pod and jetting combo? If so put it back the way it was and hope the PO did all the hard work of dialing in the jetting with pods and exhaust. If not, then perhaps the Dynojet kit would be a good investment,
