CARB SUPPORT WITH PODS was created by The_Proletariat
For those who run pods, how you support the carb rack without the airbox boots?

Most people don't bother with any additional support but you could either hang them off a couple of zip ties attached to the top frame tubes or come up with a one off bracket that does the same job but looks better.
As above though, just the carb rubbers on their own are usually good enough for the job.

The carb rubbers are good enough if you don't ride much, but those carbs are heavy and put a heck of a stress on them. If you ride a bit, the inlet rubbers life will vary, but probably 25,000, 30,000 miles somewhere. Most don't ride that much on these old Kawasakis anymore. I tried no support with lots of miles and result was replace the inlet rubber manifolds regularly. Also did the ziptie method, but zipties don't last long. Cheap enough though can be replaced every 6 months. Every design is different of course, but the KZ650 has a valve cover bolt real nicely in a close proximity to the center of the carb bank and it only took like a 1" piece of metal with a 6mm hole to be held by the valve cover bolt, and the other end was ground in a L shape more or less to loop around a easily accessible point of the carb bank. No pictures, sorry, but a little imagination not hard to fabricate. After that, no more carb rubber problems, no more zip ties breaking.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

The TK22's are not too heavy. The carb holders are plenty strong. It hasn't been an issue, and I've run pods for many years.

If I was going off-roading, I might fabricate a bar across the top-cover screws, then run a strap from that bar over the frame tube.

You should never have a problem as long as your intake mounts are not worn or the wrong size for your carbs. The ether test will detect the slightest air leak. .....................................Mike
