Hi guys.

1974 Kawasaki Z1 that I have some carb jetting questions about.

Quick list of mods:
- weisco 1015 kit
- keihin crs29 smoothbore carbs
- UNI individual pod filters
- kenny harmon L1 cams (same as webcam 110) - close to 105 / 108 lobe centers
- Larry C street ported head
- dyna S
- valvetrains / cam chain etc etc...

Ok... So I'm trying to get the jetting dialed in perfect and I have a few questions for those who run these carbs.
I know Larry C and OMR have experience with them.

I'm currently at:
- 122 main
- 62 slow
- YY8 needle at middle 4th notch
- air screw 1 turn out
- 240 air jet

Although it feels pretty damn good... Plugs are showing pretty white / lean.

I'm going to try:
- 122 main
- 62 slow
- YY7 needle at middle 4th notch (slightly more rich)
- air screw 1 turn out
- 230 air jet (slightly more rich)

So, my main questions are this:

What air jet are you guys running?
Is a 230 still not rich enough?
I'm at Sea Level around Philadelphia PA.
I once read on here a guy with same carbs and a similar set up was running a 190 air jet. Seems way too rich IMO ?

I see recommendations to run a 120/115 main and 60/55 slow but that seems too lean with my set up.
Thoughts?

What set up and jetting are you guys running with keihin crs29 carbs?

Thanks!
Ed

Hi guys,
I have an update on my jetting.
I've been making lots of little tweaks the past couple days. I've settled on what I think is solid jetting for my bike. The plugs are looking pretty good and the bike f'ing rips real hard at all rpms and throttle positions.

I'm a firm believer that every bike will want slightly different jetting. No bike is the same. However, if you have a similar set up as me (see beginning of this thread) and you're close to sea level, my jetting should get you in the ballpark.

- 122 main jet
- 65 slow jet
- yy7 needle, 1 step rich from middle
- 230 main air jet
- air screw 1 turn out
- don't run inline fuel filters that'll slow down fuel flow

Also I feel it'll be good to note I emailed Larry C and he said what some people will do with these particular carbs is change the main air jet to a 1 step more rich air jet in summer. It's easy to access. Take the pod filters off and the air jet is right there. So ... in summer when it's 100 degrees and I want to motor to stay a hair more cool, I'll pop out my 230 air jet and replace with a 220.

Another update.
Turns out I was too rich before on the main circuit.
If I was at 5k rpm and I completely went wide open throttle, it would bog/gurgle a bit before taking off.

Below is about as good as I think it's gonna get.
Below 6k rom it feels pretty good and has a nice little punch.
And then from 6 - 10k rpm it absolutely hauls ass.

- 112 main jet
- 65 slow jet
- yy7 needle, 1 step rich from middle
- 220 main air jet
- air screw 1 turn out
