Are float valve rings metal or rubber or?

I bought used valves from ebay, they came with aluminum o rings. O-rings in my carbs look like gasket material.
Which ones are right?

I guess I have bad valves AND bad petcock.

Not sure on your model, but on my 650c2 the seal under(above) the float/fuel valve seat is a gasket, maybe even cork.
They are brownish in colour.
