kz400 re-assembly help was created by phelps4u
Hello fellow riders. Not an actual rider yet considering the project ahead. I bought a 78 kz400 for $200 basically in a heap of parts less carb set and air box. I have been able to find the parts but have a question. Is the carb set supported by a bracket somewhere on the frame or is it supported by the combination of the boots on the engine and air box? If anyone can send or has a link to a picture of the engine/carb area with the tank off it would help.

Thanks

The carburetors are typically supported by the rubber carb holders at the cylinder head & the airbox inlet ducts.
My 81 650 has brackets that secure the airbox to the battey case. not sure about your 400.
The diagrams at Kawasaki.com or Partzilla should help in figuring out some stuff.

The carbs are basically only held on by the intake boots, as you can see ,with no air box & bigger than stock carbs

If you think they need more than just the carb holders on the head, you've never tried to pull a rack off of an old bike....LOL

One tip I use is to lube the inside of the carb holders with dialectic grease or just plain Vaseline or silicon. Put a lite coat on the carb throats and they will slip in easier. Not easy... but easier. Check Youtube for various methods of using clamps or tie down straps to install them into the carb holders.

Don't fix it until it's broken.
