79 carbs
04 Jan 2016 12:36
Saw this on Craigslist today. Not sure what to offer. The guy has a frame engine, carbs and two tanks. Asking $350 for everything. All I need is a tank, but I had thoughts of possibly trying these carbs on one of my 750s for shits and giggles instead of the CV carbs.
Any idea as to what they are or may be worth?

Is a title included? In Illinois and Missouri you can't even scrap the frame without a title.
Tank in good shape is got to be worth $100 and carbs about $200 so you are paying the parts price and don't need the carbs. Offer him $200 and be prepared to sell the parts on CL or ebay.
Forks and triple tree worth another $150 and front fender is worth $50.. All of these are lowish prices and you should have no trouble selling the parts for enough to cover the price of the tank you want. So you have to ask yourself, are you willing to part it out and deal with advertising and shipping?
FYI I would consider $350 a good price for a non running complete motorcycle with a title. All he has is parts.
I turned down a deal to buy a GS1100 because the trans was apart and he said all the pieces were there. He was asking $500 and before I left he was down to $300. I still walked away because I didn't believe that he had all of the parts. I'm not in the parting out business.
Just my 2 cents worth

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Forks and triples for $150? Jeebus dude, i buy and sell them for $50-60 forks and $20-30 triples. That fender is maybe $20 on a good day unless it's perfect and you wanna wait for a good buyer. Nothing really special there, don't even for certain know what the bike is, 79 what?
And yes I see the forks and crap listed in eBay for a big price, yes they sometimes sell that high, but most are business listings that have had them sitting around for YEARS and want them gone. Best offer button? They jump at a lower, price 90% of the time.

I called him up. He said it is from a kz900 or 1000 but was not sure. It has been posted and reposted for a few weeks now.
I wouldn't be opposed to picking it all up as I'm becoming a parts hoarder of sorts, but I've got six bikes in my tiny shop currently.
