The PO or some dumass took a Phillips to these delicate brass JIS drain plug screws. Does anyone know where to find em? I searched the archive and checked all things ebay, but none available apparently.

Any help appreciated.

Here's the only place I see that has at least one of them (they don't say how many they have). These folks are in New Zealand. I bought a couple scarce parts from them several years ago and was pleased with what I received. I would think shipping charges would be pretty cheap since the item is so small. Ed

Well if anyone has em sitting dead on a carb bank, I'd love to get my hands on some. I guess salvage inquiry is next. BTW, the 650 I sold was much better off than this 550. 3 years older and 23000 more miles. Shoulda kept it. Boy sitting for 10 years sure can damage a KZ.

I was able to order the drain screws for my 550 through the local Kawasaki dealership. The part says it's unavailable online but the dealer can still get them

If they are like my 83 LTD just having the head end buggered up is not a show stopper. If you can get them out just use a hack saw blade to make a new groove in the head and use a flat blade screwdriver. There is an O-ring on the sealing end that is pretty common, Ace hardware in their metric O-ring assortment, is a good source. With a clean seat and new O-ring they will seal up fine with very little torque on the head.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

As for performance. Once I got the carbs right and new plugs my 550 is a beast! It will easily keep up with 650 and 750's. Even my kids, who ride sport bikes, were impressed.
