This right here is some funny shit it don't run above 4 grand because you're basically running around
with the choke half on.
Pod's on cv carbs will work just fine if you learn how they work and
get passed it's the jetting it takes more more work then that but it can be done..

Oh wait your buildin a bobber never mind.

Checked the spark plugs. Running rich on both sides. So I re-jetted down to the stock jets and went for a test ride. Seemed to do really well. I'm close to dialing this one in I can feel it. Any thoughts about the idle screw? Or maybe my timing is off and I'm not getting full combustion?
My next step will be putting the new exhaust on then I'll get back and update this.

Glad to see you sticking to it. I had issues with both my 440s bogging at 4k, on each one it was a leaking carb holder.

Whip it like a mule!

It's common on pod conversions with the 440 for people to cover part of the pod to get the right performance out of the carbs. This is a way to keep that same thing concealed and looking better. I was considering shaving down the 1 "sleeve end inside the pod if it is still running rich now that I went to the stock jetting.

I believe what dave is pointing out is the fact 99% of folks toss on pods for that "performance" factor because they supposedly help with that.

BUT instead of just getting them to work with the pods, the answer is to throw a restriction in there? I dunno if it's the best route BUT I'm watching anyway

Stauffer1024 wrote: Okay so I finally got around to this project. It's been real cold here in PA and I don't have a garage so doing work on the bike has slowed. Anyway my Idea was to port the pods to reduce airflow so I could go down to a more reasonable jet size.......

Notice in jdvorchak’s posting where he states:
“The base problem, as I see it, is the incoming air passing though the throat actually causes a vacuum which lifts the slide. Bernoulli principal of fluid dynamics. Now the problem with running pods is that the ambient air pressure in the pod is basically outside air pressure while the air pressure inside the air filter box is lower than outside pressure. Because of this the slide is easier to pull up.”

Given that fact, now take a look at the comments and video in the posting at www.kzrider.com/forum/3-carburetor/59838...kz750-b1-1976#674519

That should show you how the diaphragm is normally affected by vacuum rather than just the diameter of the air filter thoat. Some of this info may be helpful. Ed

You are shooting yourself in the foot with those filters and in the other foot with those pieces
of pvc. Get some K@Ns or Unis that do not block the air bleeds.

Hey man! Any news? I have a 1983 KZ440 ltd, slightly transformed to a cafe. The previous owner sold the airbox, so I'm going for pods as well. I bought a 6sigma jet kit, they did all the sizing of the jets based on my specifications.

Let us know how your project is going! Thanks!
