It's been a while that I get on but every time I seek help it appears to always be on this forum. So I was having problems with my 82 ltd 550 carb they would over fill so I decided so get them rebuild it apears one of the I guess feet or however you would call them were the needle goes into to hold the float in place has broken off and so I don't know if to get it fixed and how or to try and buy a new one . If someone can help guide me the right way thanks .

Are you talking about the tang on the float?
Pics would help.

Yes the tang I just wasn't sure what to call it. Inside each bowl it has I gues two tangs and the float will go in between it and slide the needle threw the wholes on both tangs on one it broke off I'm sure I could find it but not sure what to do if to fix it or weld it somehow or what.

There's one tang where the needle sits. Are you talking about where the pivot shaft goes through? Pics?

Ok I will post pics today when I am with the carb just to make sure we are talking about the same thing but I might of explained wrong when I say needle I don't mean the ones for the gas I mean the little I guess shaft that holds the float in place to let it go up and down as the gas goes up and down well we're the shaft hold In place on both feet that are part of the carb they have wholes and hold the shaft in place one has broken off

You have a few options on that, from easiest to worst; get a new carb body and swap it out, send it to a micro TIG outfit for repair, file both pieces flat and drill/tap a stud between the post and the carb body. And the one that wont work, epoxy the pieces together

I was afraid you'd say that. Look for some used carbs on eBay. Take the good parts from the two and make a good set.

That's usually the answer most go with, BUT the welding only runs about $20 plus shipping if I remember correctly, so that actually is NOT a bad choice when you look at a set of carbs running $80+ on eBay

I'm pretty sure he is talking about the cast alloy boss the hinge pin slides through...
I don't know what fuel will do to generic epoxy but there is such a thing as hot fuel proof epoxy.
It could be repairable if the broken piece still exists.
Welding seems extreme....
I think I'd be scouring eBay for a while before repair it.
