So, i just baught my first kz:) its a 1976 kz 650 b2 fitted with a 1982 ltd 750 engine. Its tuff to find carb tunning advise when the cards are miss matched to the non original engine. I have installed pods on the vm24m the exhaust is some form of 2to1 and 2to1. Any suggestiuons on base carb set ups for this configuration would be a great help, ie main jet size, needle position exct.....

There's no such animal as a 1976 KZ650-B2. Ed

The 650-B2 should be a 78 model. If the exhaust is an aftermarket system, then it probably flows more air than the stock mufflers. Probably a good reference point would be to check into the carburetor tuning of a 650 w 4-1 exhaust & pod filters -- a typical setup is #115 main jets, #17.5 pilot jets, & the jet needles clipped 1 groove from stock. With the 750-4 engine you'd probably need larger main jets at the least.

I know of only one guy who installed VM24 carburetors on a 750-4 engine, but he didn't provide any jetting info.

I'm running a 17.5 pilot....... nettle in the 5th clip (4th is stock) and 117.5 mains (I need to do some plug chops and may go a 115 but would rather be a little rich than too lean)...... Thinking that should be pretty close to what you have and thinking its probably a 77 or 78 model like Ed says. If it says manufactured in late 76 on the frame its a 77.

1978 KZ650 b-2
700cc Wiseco kit 10 to 1.
1980 KZ750 cam, ape springs, stock clutch/ Barnett springs.
Vance and Hines Header w/ comp baffle and Ape pods, Dyna S and green coils, copper wires.
29MM smooth bores W/ 17.5 pilots, 0-6s and 117.5 main
16/42 gearing X ring chain and alum rear JT sprocket.

Yes; it's a 1977 KZ650-B1. Just like cars, bikes are made beginning a few months before the model year. Ed

Using cyclechaos.com the engine is probably from a 1980 KZ750-H1 Ltd, but it has the engine covers from the 650B.
The 750-4 had electronic ignition & 3-phase charging system. I don't know what charging system the B1 had.
If the bike has points ignition, it's probably from the B1 engine, but that's just a guess.
There's no telling what advancer it has, but on the 750 the last 4 digits of the part number are usually clearly indicated on the advancer.
